1: Star

Evelyn Florence McKenzie & Winfield Nesbit, Florence Evelyn Nesbit—Beginning Sketch, 25 Dec, 1884. Tarentum, Pennsylvania.

It may be apocrypha that the child was so beautiful at birth, the neighbors came to gaze in awe. Her father, enchanted by his girl, read her fairytales and called her his star, a child of flashing light. He was dead by the time she was eleven.

Art:  Mary Cassatt, Peasant Mother and Child, 1884, public domain.
