Harry Kendall Thaw wed Evelyn, a “former opera singer,” on April 4, 1905, with Mrs. Thaw’s hesitant approval. Concerned primarily with propriety, Mother Thaw made sure Evelyn’s past was not spoken of. Still estranged, Evelyn asked her remarried mother to attend the wedding but this did not renew their relationship.
